Levels of Goals/Plans and Their Importance
GOALS: Goals should be specific, measurable, realistically challenging, and linked to awards. They should also have a defined time period and cover key result areas.
- Strategic Goals - Where the organization wants to be in the future
- Tactical Goals - Goals that define the outcomes that major divisions and departments must achieve
- Operational Goals - Specific, measurable, results expected from departments, work groups, and individuals
PLANS:
- Strategic Plans - Action steps, a blueprint that defines the organizational activities and resource allocations
- Tactical Plans - Designed to help execute major strategic plans
- Operational Plans - Organization's lower levels that specify action steps toward achieving operational goals
